What is D of E?
D of E is an individual challenge, which encourages young people to undertake exciting, constructive, challenging and enjoyable activities in their free time. The scheme is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities for anyone aged 14-25. In the last few years, the number of young people participating in the award at Queen’s Road, has increased vastly, with us now having around 150 young people registered last year.
The Award is a four Section Programme with three progressive levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Sections involve: Service (helping the community); Skills (a hobby, skill or interest); Physical Recreation (sports, dance, fitness); Expeditions; Residential Project – Gold only (an enterprise with people not known to the participant). At Queen’s Road, we are here to help all participants with their progress through the award. We are able to offer various skill options on a Friday night, running from September through to Christmas. Then from Christmas through to the summer we run our Expedition training on Friday nights.
When? Friday night 7.30 – 9.30pm (term-time only)
Information for Parents
D of E has been running at Queen’s Road Baptist Church for over 10 years. Over these years, more than 300 awards have been achieved, and we currently have over 150 young people on our books.
Our Duke of Edinburgh Award group has always been run by volunteer leaders and helpers, who give up their Friday evenings and various weekends in the year to make our group the success it has been over the years. All of these leaders have been through our church’s ‘Safe-To-Grow’ child protection policy, and are currently in the process of applying for CRB Police Checks.
All Expedition weekends away, at all levels, are supervised by a team of leaders. The amount of contact and level of supervision varies with each level, with closer supervision at the Bronze and Silver levels than at Gold, where generally participants are over 18.
If you have any further questions or comments about our DofE group, then please contact the leadership team who will be happy to help.
